Health screening

got a call from NUH this morning which I rejected their offer. i hope it's the correct choice!!!

anyway today is the "free" NUS health screening. signed up for the $45 package cos got Liver Function Test.

the day started with me being quite blur, went to UHWC instead of MPSH2, din bring the form i printed, din put on earrings (okay i noe tt's a small thing haha!)

for the eye test, he gave me 6/6 and 6/9 which i dun think is accurately. i dun think my eye sight is so good, with my astigmatism from LASIK still there.

the station when she passed me the urine bottle to urine in, she said "mid stream" which took me quite a while to recall my pharmacotherapy notes. if it's non healthcare ppl, would they understand wat's mid stream? (basically mid stream is just to make sure the "front portion of the urine" is used to wash down any bacteria which is present in the tract and not from the urine, so that the UFEME can be more accurately done)

okiez and sianz. i grewer fatter! sianz sianz sianz. haha. and when i came back from the urine thingy, rushed from stations to stations, i was ushered to do the BP readings. the person din allow ppl to cool down before taking. my usual readings at home is ~105/65, this time it was 121/83 and it's pre-hypertensive state already (buden still accepted as normal). buay zhun. LC said her friend came back and got 150++, like so off hor. haha

and i watched the needle went in for the blood test. was wondering why it's more painful than blood donation and realised cos there's no anaesthetics! haha.

then went to lunch at CrystalJade and then ice cream at Cold Rock. DO NOT GO TO COLD ROCK IF U'RE AFRAID OF FATS cos the ice cream really taste of butter! we think it's to decrease the melting point. haha. mad scientists... and to think i din go badminton session cos of the health screening and i just downed myself with a cup of fats.

Pre-regger 08/09

okok update update. my comp cant connect and my sis refuse to let me meddle with the connection to get it back. bleah.

so after 1 day of waiting for phone calls and arranging interviews, and 1 day of 3 interviews, the phone conversation of the day:

"This is XXX from Alexandra Hospital. We're giving you an offer for the position of Pre-registration Pharmacist. Would you like to accept it?"

"Yes yes! I'm accepting!!!"

and there was a laughter at the other end of the line.

i think i sounded too desperate. haha. buden AH was like my 1st choice, cos i'm quite sick of NUH. haha and AH is near my home too.

LC is also going AH too!! haha. 甩不开的老友 hahahahaha :P yeah!

oh so update on my pharm clique:
me and LC --> AH
Cheryl --> SGH
Hua Zhen --> KKH

all got job liaoz. hahaha

Mind Your Body

It's wednesday and i was looking for MYB in the ST stack. then I saw my ex-colleague from NUH (Tien Yi) who was on the front page of "BRIDGE" the south west CDC newsletter. quite happy that she's now the nurse in NUH (when i left, she's just starting on the training) and is now helping out in her estate.

I think MYB is a good paper (not the journal type) haha :P i'll selectively read it first, the main ST can wait. haha

anw, i like these quote about cancer. somehow optimistic

"Having cancer focuses the mind like nothing else"
"Cancer is a kind disease because it gives you time to say goodbye"

(and i still hate pharmacotherapy.. haiz)

Picturessssss

okiez, just some random pics taken now and then.

the pelleting machine from Dosage Forn Design Lab :P

The yellow pellets look more like pop corn haha!

EmiCakes Durian Cake, beside Botak Jones after the CNY eve badminton day.
Was full after this cake but ate Botak Jones anyway :P

That time Cloud was asking what's nice at my coffeeshop but I dun have an answer. Now I know. It's this western food stall called "Roasted Chicken (Rooster head logo) Western food". It's run by 2 young lads who learnt cooking from Shatec. Look at the mushroom soup. It's THICK one lo. $1 for soup plus bread with any meal.

The Pork Chop I had. I think the Fish was better. The Pork tastes like satay type. The Fish was those nice breaded fillet kind one. AND EACH MEAL COSTS $4.50 ONLY!

You'll be so jealous if i tell you i can see sunset from my Balcony everyday (provided the weather is good). Cos the sun sets at the Chinese Garden Lake. and it's nice scenery which I've been seeing since I know wat's sunset :P (i rmb sitting at the balcony during late afternoons to pass my time when i was young)

The nicer colour.

The AH JINS cousins glamour shot at Xueting's renovated room with ORANGE wall.
I duno why my face black black here haha. My indiv shot is on Facebook. dun wan to put on blog :P

So after the orange wall shots, we were sitting on the floor toking when we realise that the lamp and the cello look classy together. Each of us had indiv shot again hahaha

it's the only song i'm playing (to cut down practice time for my hectic yr 4 timetable)
i'm playing cello!

===============================

during lunch today, my mum was telling me about some foldable chopsticks-cum-spoon-cum-fork thingy she saw at her buddhist class. she seems interested to start a business for this environmental thingy, and wanted me to promote to my university when we're onz. haha. quite a good idea right? hehe. maybe going to drag some cousins into the business.

================================

So i've decided to do pre-reg after i graduate. the application for Masters is over already, and LC also decided to do pre-reg to see if she's really not keen. for me, i tink mayb it's 天意 that made me fail the Medicine and Dentistry interviews to do Pharmacy so that I dun have to study so much. Actually if i'm not so academically inclined, I would have gone into music. now i just wan to see whether I'm really good at Pharmacy type of work. if i'm good, i'll further to take PharmD (doctor of Pharmacy), maybe i'll end up teaching in NUS. If not, hang in for a while, continue my cello/band/music, den when the time comes, i'll do Locum (part-time) for Pharmacy and teach music part-time.

at least that's what i'm thinking now.

The PCR Song by Scientists for Better PCR

this is like super amusing (from Xiaoyang's blog)

There was a time when to amplify DNA,
You had to grow tons and tons of tiny cells.
(Oooh) Then along came a guy named Dr. Kary Mullis,
Said you can amplify in vitro just as well.

Just mix your template with a buffer and some primers,
Nucleotides and polymerases too.
Denaturing, annealing, and extending,
Well it’s amazing what heating and cooling and heating will do.

[Chorus]
PCR when you need to detect mutation (detect mutation)
PCR when you need to recombine (recombine)
PCR when you need to find out who the daddy is (who’s your daddy?)
PCR when you need to solve a crime (solve a crime)
[x2]

[Advertisement]
(PCR) To all the scientists out there doing PCR, Bio-Rad salutes you with the all-new 1000 series thermal cycling platform.

(and my lab uses that :P )
