Today

today was actually quite a normal day, but i feel like blogging abt some minor things that happened today.

====================================================

during work today, i was rinsing my 2L (very long one) measuring cylinder at the washing sink. my colleague was standing behind me waiting to wash her apparatus. so i kindly stepped back to let her use the sink. the measuring cylinder was still my hands. so when i felt that the rinsing was almost done, i poured the water from the cylinder into the sink. i dunno whether the water had splashed onto her or wat she's just shocked that i suddenly poured water near her, she looked at me for a brief moment. i din feel anything was wrong, i just carried on with what i was doing. and then i realised, for the whole of today, she nv really smile at me liaoz... (she usually has a polite smile on her face)

but as i was somebody who gets pissed easily with other ppl, i'm qt sensitive to wat can make ppl pissed. haiz. i dun wan to make enemies in an unfamiliar place, esp. when i'm really really a very small fry. haiz. i tink i better buy nice cookies for them on my last day of internship, so that my FYP will have 好日子过...

and anw, just when i tot i could leave to meet Erina to pass her my GOOD sleeping bag, I went to check on my Nu-PAGE gel running on electrophoresis. my sup was at a meeting and said that she could take over from there. but just when i was about to leave, she was back. and i had to continue doing the transferring of gel (she went for other short meeting after she came back to ask me to continue)

so after i finished the transfer, it was already 6pm. walked to the bus stop and waited for 25min for 95 to meet Erina. when i met her, it was already 6.30pm and i had to reach city hall at 7pm. had arranged with Xinhui (HCJC) to meet her in school after her lab too, to go tog to city hall. so being the "clever" me, i told her 95 and MRT would be very crowded and 95 also had a very long frequency. we went to take 197 instead...

==================================================

and we reached City Hall at 7.45pm... when we arrived at Muthu's Curry for "jiemeiz meet Xiaoyang" session, it was already like 8pm. Muthu's Curry is okay... but the service is quite... haha... u infer from wat i've to say about the "Can you refill our ice water?" incident. we actually asked for ice water 4 times and it's only the 4th time when we actually got our ice water refilled. we figured that they need to get water from the tap, freeze it down, and take it out, so it's taking such a long time. hahaha..

planned to eat Gelare's 50% (only on Tuesday) waffles but walked past "Donut Factory" and Wei Ting decided to try it. So all of us bought 1 piece each with her too. i had "mint dark chocolate". it was okay, quite soft and chocolatey. but all of them said "Krispy Kreme" one was nicer... and i was the only one dere who hasn't tried it b4.. sianz.. haha..

tok cok abit about old bandmates. xiaoyang is still the same. i realised all of those who went overseas grew thinner. they said it was due to their money saving plans. hahaha

==============================================

finally can choose projects liaoz. but i would most probably end up with the BTI one. dun wan to waste my 3 mths here haha... this is the project title:

Role of Epithelial Cell Adhesion Molecule (EpCAM) in Maintaining Proliferation of Human Embryonic Stem Cells

sounds chim? i tink so too haha!

NUSWS BBQ outing

had a bbq outing with nusws. haha. kind of initiated it, with the idea of a mini-DND. it turned out well. with 28 ppl attending. :)

food was ok. hmm felt abit cheated by EZB though. but, not bad la, for its convenience.

thanks danK for ordering the food and booking the pit. thanks erina for counting the money. thanks nick for helping to drive around the food and publicise/jio ppl. thanks everybody for attending YAY~~

ermz, b4 the bbq, went to cycle. i think pasir ris park is a better place to cycle on weekends than ECP due to its light traffic. BUT STILL I DUN UNDERSTAND Y THESE PLACES HAVE TO BE IN THE EAST! hmmpf!

oh and nick's new speakers are quite cool. at least our bbq was not too quiet. got nice band music as accompaniment hehe.

ok i need to:
1. change strings
2. get books for my student
3. start my report
4. read and UNDERSTAND my journal
5. upload more pictures on Friendster.

haha.. not now. hehe time to slp :)

Besana Poemssssss

Erina has a poem:

While In Italy by Erina
(Read each stanza from left to right)

While in Italy,
I stayed at the Gatti's.
Mauro Gatti was happy-go-lucky,
Papa Gatti was always jolly.
Mama Gatti was very very nice,
I stayed in Wonderland just like Alice.

While in Italy,
We were La NUS* Wind Symphony.
The audience were indeed merry,
Like the widow we were acting.
Had a stint with Saldarini,

An honour that came knocking.

While in Italy,
I had a fun time marching.
The weather was scorching,
And my darling, oh, so heavy.
But I was still enjoying,
To see the Columbian band dancing.

While in Italy,
It was cool but sunny.
We paid money to go sight-seeing,
More was gone to pigeon-feeding.
Churches-a-plenty,
But we didn't feel stodgy.

While in Italy,
Gelato, ate too many.
Pasta, never-ending,
Wine was free-flowing.
Clothes, too expensive,
Cafétiera is for coffee.

While in Italy,
Dogs were big and small.
I fell for Wolf,
Who just couldn't woof!
An amazing experience in Besana,
For the little mind of Erina.

*'Nus' rhymes with 'moose'

I've a poem too!

Another Poem (by Hui Shan)
In response to Erina’s Poem

I'm not Erina
But I'll try to write about Besana
To continue her stanzas
So that you will read till gaga.

The Gatti's house is small & quaint
But doors do bang & bang.
And we couldn't help but wonder
Whether we should get a door stopper.

The village was small & quiet
Until the band festival
When everybody turns enthu
Every music did they dance to.

Standing ovations made us high
Merry widow can just make us die
The rest of the bands were great too!
That makes the festival successful.

Last dinner was an event to remember
When we exchanged gifts & presents.
Now, we miss the Gattis
But Mauro is not replying!

OOPS (I think he went on a holiday :P )

Cello exam

Feeling abit lost.

[deliberately deleted the name of my school at the blog description]

My cello teacher is having some problems with the school. So instead of her teaching me today, it's another teacher whom I believe is a Philippines Chinese. Her skills were great, but her teaching is contradicting my previous teacher. She wanted me to change some of the fingerings, and some playing style. Her fingerings are more convenient, but means that I've to practise more to get used to it. Her playing style is quite far off from my previous teacher. e.g. at a part where my previous teacher wanted me to play in a smaller sound, she wanted it flowing and louder. For this, not that she's not logical, but my previous teacher backed her teaching up with some musical knowledge, but she goes according to her feel. I dunno wat's right now. haiz.

And then later I found out why she's so persistent in asking me to change my style. It's not persistent in a bad way, buden it's unlike a relief teacher to change the style of a student, just in case the original teacher feels offended.

It's because my teacher has a high probability of not going back to the sch again!!! OUCH! and i'm having my exam in a few weeks time. ARGH.

and after the lesson I found out that I've to pen down for internal assessment on 27 or 28 Jul which is next week. Luckily, the administrator was able to find another later date for me (11th August) since I've yet to practise seriously with my pianist PK. and that was another $20 gone.

I'm not supposed to mention this later part I'm going to say soon to my school. My cello teacher was going to teach private and at another school due to some problems with my school. I would most likely be following her to private. But the thing is, on my exam date, she would not be in SG.

Feeling quite helpless/screwed up. I've to go to exam with the new teacher who isn't too sure of the exam syllabus. Haiz.

I've to practise really hard. In any case, if I practise hard enough, things wouldn't go too wrong, right?

I'm back from Banda Besana!

I luv the trip! Think it was the best getaway I've ever had. I had a longer trip before but that one (India) was a suffering trip haha, and during that trip I was so hoping to return SG. But this trip makes me wan to extend my extension somemore (which i cant, due to work and $$). I guess the trip would not have been so fun without the fellow bandmates and the clique-mates. haha!

Thanks Erina, Nick, Yokes, Cloudadoodee, Phoebe, DanielKang, Cedric Lee and my other section mates and the extension ppl~~~ for being such great company, and tolerating with my not-funny-lame jokes and whining and cannot read maps... haha!

From few bits i can remember abt the trip (i dun write short notes everyday like Erina & Nick HAHA)

28Jun:
Met the Gattis. They were very cute ppl. showed us maps and maps. trying to make us feel at home. alot of pets! Went Monza for shopping

29Jun:
Cant join the band in rehearsal cos my double bass was not there yet. quite a pathetic feeling.
Tour to Lecco. cant rmb much :P HAHA

30Jun:
bad day. double bass cracked under heat. NO INSTRUMENT FOR PERFORMANCE AT MEDALAGO! haiz. became the photographer.

1Jul:
went for mass. joined them in "singing" haha. more of "clapping" along.
marching was great. i was the banner holder. hee :) it turned out well
BESANA CONCERT! YAY! got instrument. but i was quite rusty from not being able to practise and play at the 1st concert.
STANDING OVATIONS FOR 3 TIMES!!! (u can get the DVD from me)
I guess compared to the other bands, we have a different sound concept. more bottom-heavy than the rest who have powerful cats sections.

2Jul:
Tour to Milan. visited the university and some other places (which i forgot), probably some churches again :P
Nightlife @ Navigli with the mosquitoes. HAHA. swarms of them. not much night life for us cos we all want to escape from these flying insects

3Jul:
Science & Technology Museum. I think I like the cello area best. and also the corridor with weird
paintings. there was an interesting one which shows babies hatching from eggs.
Concert at Brugora. okay concert. quite a few screw ups. cos we cant really listen to each other. the sound just dispersed when we played them. haha. but still, we had an enthusiastic crowd :)

4Jul:
Open Market. shopped around and watched the band of festival rehearsal
Nick rotted at the Gattis' with Erina and I. nice afternoon just nua-ing and eating snacks and watching the time go by. with Voof (the dog) at the door, dao-ing us. HAHA
Band of festival concert. no space inside the tent, so watched from the outside. Mauro's band performed after the concert.

5Jul:
Tour to Lake Como. forgot what happened. HAHA.
Military band show! I like the 2nd band more than the last band but the last band got more "sae" HAH. and there were FIREWORKS! haha i duno y, but italians watched fireworks quietly. while singaporeans like to create the atmosphere by "wah"-ing everytime a new one was shot. HAH.

6Jul:
Venice! OTOT. bought souvenirs. nice city with so much water! Haising group left us. i managed to catch the jazz double bass perform when i was waiting for Mauro's parents to send me back. zai!

7Jul:
Florence with band. shopping street. bought stuff again haha! left the main group.

8Jul:
2nd day at Florence. wanted to OTOT but found the group at a supermarket while some of us were flipping the guidebook to search for places to visit. duno what happened in the supermarket but we waited and waited and decided that we should go to Fiesole cos "without Fiesole, there will be no Florence" (according to the book). took a bus there and took ALOT of stupid shots with the "ancient temple" which was mainly stones. haha.

9Jul:
left for Rome on train. the hostel was not as nice as the one in Florence. the lift was spoilt.
walked around. Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and some churches. haha

10Jul:
Vatican city! went to Vatican museums. Sistine chapel was great. :)
then, St Peter. nice square and the basilica was nice too. ya and nice church haha :P

11Jul:
Colosseum, Roman Forum, Caesar Forum. SUPER HOT DAY!!! and took quite a long time to find food. ended up eating MacDonalds. hehe. then, shopped!!!

12Jul:
left for Stockholm on budget airline. Nice weather. high-end shopping. but we still bought stuff. the hostel was very ikea-ish. hehe. but we had to share our dorm with others. so have to "hush hush". wanted to go to Glenn Miller Cafe but ended up at Hard Rock Cafe (where I burnt my pocket buying the t-shirts and the food) as Glenn Miller was just a small cafe. went to Gamla Stan area to take pictures of the night scene.
Met up with haising group!!! hee

13Jul:
visited Royal Palace! and witness the changing of guards. oh there was an exhibition of Crown Princess Victoria becos the next day was her 30th bday. hah. looks like a happy person :)
shopped again. Nick really 满载而归. shopping rox HAHA!
tried our luck at Glenn Miller Cafe! and they helped to reserve a table for us after we waited for 30min! hehe. and u noe, all of us really enjoyed. nice place, great music, even greater company. (not very nice food tho HAHA)

14Jul:
left for airport. HOME! (plus serious jetlag)

Finished uploading photos!!

I luv this trip!!! :) thanks all!
