The indonesian maid

My maid recently faced some financial difficulties but wanted to go home to rest after this contract ends.

Kena cheated by her agency that she would have to forfeit 6 mths of her salary if she goes home. They previously told her it's only 4 mths, and she paid the deposit.

Now she's thinking of a transfer instead of going home. So sad. no rest for her :( I really think she needs a well-deserved rest.

(My mother would want to return home as a full-time housewife as she wants to retire from working.)

I really admire the spirit of maids, really. and her love for her family to keep her going. (even though I think her mother is quite mean to ask her not to go back so often in order to earn more money... and keeps cutting her sister's allowance. the mother may be keeping a sum of money for herself.)

If I were a maid.... I dunno what to say do!

The MCYS surveyor

I was surveyed by MCYS regarding gambling. The surveyor asked about demographics such as religion. As a brother-in-Christ, he noted that I was the only and first person in my family to be a Christian. And he says:

Acts 16:31

New International Version (©1984)

They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household."

I'm still waiting patiently for God's work to be done in my family. and that would be very good news :)

Learning how to pray - How do I start?

I was looking for some "protocol" of how to pray. This link looks useful

Here are some simple steps to structure our prayer time.

Adoration: Spend time praising and worshipping God. Acknowledge who He is. Praise Him for His attributes of faithfulness, goodness, power, mercy, and love. “I will praise him from the bottom of my heart: ‘LORD, who can compare with you? Who else rescues the weak and helpless from the strong? Who else protects the poor and needy from those who want to rob them?’” (Psalm 35:10).
  • Confession: Confess our sins to the Lord, because He always forgives us. Confession is a daily cleansing exercise. “But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong” (1 John 1:9).
  • Thanksgiving: Give thanks to the Lord for the many blessings He has given us. Thank Him for the big and small things in our lives. These are the blessings that we easily take for granted. “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever” (1 Chronicles 16:34).
  • Supplication: Present our requests to God. God is our Father and He is delighted when we come to Him with our requests. “Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done” (Philippians 4:6).

  • The above steps are examples of the many ways we can learn how to pray. Some people like to get up early in the morning to pray, while others prefer night time. People enjoy talking to God while they take a walk, and others like to write silent prayers into journals. Many read Bible passages and turn them into prayers. When needs arise in the middle of our busy days, we can whisper a short prayer and God will hear.

I believe that God honors us when we come to Him as we learn how to pray. Prayer takes a whole new meaning when we realize that Christianity is a relationship, not a mere religion. Relationships are strengthened through sharing. Prayer strengthens not only our faith, but our love relationship with Jesus. The only key to an effective prayer is prayer itself. “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful apart from me” (John 15:4).

    Laptop backpack

I want to buy this bag..........

    Friday, January 14, 2011

    I'm an FON. lalala.

I bought a Mr Bean pancake near one of the exits and made my way to the exit across the other end. However, I was being shouted by a lady staff in her 40s-50s standing behind the barrier, pointing her finger at me as I was already starting on my pancake while finding my way out to the exit. ( I wasn’t even dropping any crumbs onto the floor.) In fact, my friend and I are not sure which exit it is, so we also asked her the directions. While she was talking to my friend about the directions, my natural response was to continue with my pancake. Amidst her conversation with my friend, again she pointed her finger at me and shouted across 5 metres and said “Can you stop that?” To me, I was already going to get out of the station, and in fact, I do not view myself as INSIDE the station since it was somewhat near the other exit, which was as around how close Mr Bean was to the exit. I really felt embarrassed by her public accusation, as if I was a primary school child and I felt that it was because I was in my exercise attire and looked rather young.

I would like to get the message across that the staff making the accusation should do it in a tactful manner. I am one of the in-charge of a store and even in cases of shoplifting, we would ask in a tactful manner to search the bag. Therefore, no matter what type of accusation it is, there should be professionalism with dealing with it. I was feeling very appalled and disturbed by the accusation.

Another feedback is that Chinese Garden MRT (where I usually take my trains) has a Mr Bean outlet too. However, commuters can sit near the control station (on the side where the pebbles and plants are) to enjoy their food. Commuters can walk across from 1 exit to another with Mr Bean in their hands and not being accused like that. Is there a standardised agreement across all MRT stations? Should there be a delineation marked out? I personally felt that there should be some flexibility, on the grounds that we are a civilised society. For example, a person holding on to an ICE CREAM crossing to the other exit after getting it from one of the exits, should be allowed to lick their ice cream since it could have melted and dirtied the floor. This is just pure common sense.

    青峰+娃娃=絕配

    被雨傷透 { 幾米音樂劇 向左走向右走 }

    你的眼睛勾引我犯罪
    一個幾乎完美無邪的罪
    你的微笑引誘我跟隨
    完全不由自己的跟隨
    我是這樣孤獨無法領悟
    那個微笑將帶領我
    到一個回不來的去處

    那天的雨下得恰到好處
    把僅存的線索弄得模糊
    如何能夠找到一陣大風
    完全把我吹向你的來路
    我是這樣無辜無法領悟
    那陣風它的若有所悟
    唯一機會是那條相反的路

    離開你我走入雨中
    讓自己被雨擁抱
    被雨旋轉被雨帶走
    被雨穿透

    離開你我走入雨中
    讓自己被雨包裹
    被雨侵略被雨打擊
    被雨傷透

    詞:李格弟 曲:吳青峰

I just want to say that this song is wonderful :)

This song can cheer you up, cos it's by Cheer!!! :P

    My story

    Background:

Part of being a Christian is that we can tell our story to others. This is the story of how we became a Christian, and what it means for us to be a Christian.

Preparing to tell our story helps us make our own thinking clear and helps us to be always prepared to give an answer to everybody who asks you to give a reason for the hope you have (1Peter 3:15)

This is part of my assignment for the membership class. By putting it onto my blog, I view it as an important personal story and also to testify for His presence in my life. Being a Christian is one of the best event that had ever happened to me :)

I did not grow up in a Christian family. My family members are Buddhists and my mother is a devout Buddhist. When I was young, I had always been taught the Buddhist traditions and I thought that I would also become a devout Buddhist. I could not understand why Christians do not tolerate any other religions, and I thought that it was wrong to be so “intolerant”.

When I knew my boyfriend, Felix (currently fiancé) who is a Christian, I thought that it is “alright” for me to remain a non-believer, as long as I do not interfere with his worship and religious affairs. When Felix brought me to church, it was just to “fulfil his wish” and I would attend Sunday morning service every alternate week. It was a chore and I dreaded waking up early on Sundays which I usually slept in. I complained. However, I still felt obliged to attend every alternate week.

After a couple of months of grudging Sunday mornings, I felt that I begin to agree with the sermons which often strike a chord in me. I started going to church every week and gradually, I believe in God. One year after attending church, I said the sinner’s prayer after a sermon on 6 June 2009. My pastor later revealed to me that Felix and he prayed for my salvation the night before. When I heard that, I felt that God is a true and living God.

After a few more months of worship in that church, Felix and I decided to visit ORPC in February 2010. We liked the messages from the sermons and also the Presbyterian setting (our previous church is a Charismatic one). We attended Christianity Explained (CE) course too and it has reaffirmed my faith. I feel I am better able to defend my faith and spread the good news to my friends and family who are non-believers. The abundance of reading materials from CE has also answered some of the uncertainty I had. We grew to like ORPC and its strong adherence to the bible. We look forward to continue to walk the faith and serve God in ORPC.

    Feedback to Jetstar

    Hi,

My flight was previously delayed for 20 hours and a few people from our flight had complained to Jetstar regarding this issue and they mentioned in an email that Jetstar will contact the passengers who were listed in the attached list for the redemption of $50 Jetstar voucher.

As I did not receive any phone call, I tried to contact Jetstar Singapore customer service at 8006161977. The line was on hold for at least 15 minutes. I tried a second time on another day and decided to be more patient. I waited for at least 10 minutes.

The operator did not know what was the whole issue about and when I initiated to offer the Case ID, he said it wasn't necessary. However, he did not know the whole case and proceeded to tell me that I would receive an email in 4 working days. The email address I provided was chia.hui.shan@gmail.com.

It was more than 4 days now, in fact, it is probably more than 2 weeks since I called. I did NOT receive any email from Jetstar.

A few points I wish to highlight to the management of Jetstar:

    1. Poor service recovery. Flight had been delayed for almost 1 day. One of your staff mentioned that Jetstar will contact the passengers who are listed in the attached list for the redemption of $50 Jetstar voucher. There was NO news.

    2. Jetstar customer service line was put on hold for too long, more than 15 minutes. This long wait will further aggravate an already-angry customer.

    3. Telephone operator did not bother to check the issue, even upon customer's offer to provide the case ID number. He simply pushed it to an email response which he did not follow up with.

    4. Lastly, email response was not delivered as promised.

You may or may not reply. I'm not really interested in the voucher redemption anymore. These are honest feedback from me, who is a customer also dealing with customer service.

    EEErie

I was at the nursing home. The meeting room which I used to do work was occupied by a social worker and the treatment room air-con was down.

The nurse showed me a "private room" and told me I could use it.

Me: Oh that's where those richer patients stay, single bed room.

Nurse: Ya you can use it, she just died.

*goose bumps* Although I knew I didn't have to be worried, I was feeling a little spooky... haha.
