I bought a Mr Bean pancake near one of the exits and made my way to the exit across the other end. However, I was being shouted by a lady staff in her 40s-50s standing behind the barrier, pointing her finger at me as I was already starting on my pancake while finding my way out to the exit. ( I wasn’t even dropping any crumbs onto the floor.) In fact, my friend and I are not sure which exit it is, so we also asked her the directions. While she was talking to my friend about the directions, my natural response was to continue with my pancake. Amidst her conversation with my friend, again she pointed her finger at me and shouted across 5 metres and said “Can you stop that?” To me, I was already going to get out of the station, and in fact, I do not view myself as INSIDE the station since it was somewhat near the other exit, which was as around how close Mr Bean was to the exit. I really felt embarrassed by her public accusation, as if I was a primary school child and I felt that it was because I was in my exercise attire and looked rather young.
I would like to get the message across that the staff making the accusation should do it in a tactful manner. I am one of the in-charge of a store and even in cases of shoplifting, we would ask in a tactful manner to search the bag. Therefore, no matter what type of accusation it is, there should be professionalism with dealing with it. I was feeling very appalled and disturbed by the accusation.
Another feedback is that Chinese Garden MRT (where I usually take my trains) has a Mr Bean outlet too. However, commuters can sit near the control station (on the side where the pebbles and plants are) to enjoy their food. Commuters can walk across from 1 exit to another with Mr Bean in their hands and not being accused like that. Is there a standardised agreement across all MRT stations? Should there be a delineation marked out? I personally felt that there should be some flexibility, on the grounds that we are a civilised society. For example, a person holding on to an ICE CREAM crossing to the other exit after getting it from one of the exits, should be allowed to lick their ice cream since it could have melted and dirtied the floor. This is just pure common sense.
