Growing up

Sometimes when I was walking on the streets, I saw my dad walking past me (he nv see me, and I was too far to call out to him).

I realised that my dad is already quite old (white hair and not too good vision due to previous injuries). Like a sudden realisation. and I realised that, we being the "children" have already grown up. Another sudden realisation that I'll be working soon to support my parents.

Pre-regging: 16 Jun 2008 to 3 May 2009

Pay: not a secret --> $1700

Not bad, really. Here in Australia pre-regs get paid ard $30,000 which translated to abt less than SGD$1500 per month because living expenses here so bloody expensive lah!

How's community pharmacy like in SG?

Hi brainboxer,

What would you like to find out about community pharmacy in SG? Basically community pharmacy consists of retail outlets (e.g. Guardian, Watsons and Unity Healthcare) and subsidised polyclinics where people can get their primary healthcare from.

The non-community pharmacy will be public and private hospitals which provide secondary healthcare.

Is there anything else you would like to find out? :)

Hi Shanz,
Yea, I know abt the different pharmacy careers available - it's not too different except here (in Oz) doctors cannot dispense medication.

For one, sure love to know exactly how employment opportunites are like back home for pharmers. The last I heard there was a growing avalanche of pharmers hitting the industry.

Do pharmers back in SG actually own their pharmacies like in Oz? Here, only pharmers can own pharmacies & there's a limit to how many.

Lastly, is it also true that many young M'sian pharmers are swamping the place? Keeping in mind that in M'sia, they just opened a few more new pharm schs!

Actually i hadn't heard of many pharmers who own their own pharmacies in SG. I think the big ones are those which I think you would already know like Guardian, Watsons, Unity. Some of the less well-known ones, i guess, are owned by those more entrepreneurish pharmers. :)

Yupz, there are many M'sians in pharmacy sch in SG. for my batch, there is around 1/3 of the cohort. I heard that they came because the degree from NUS is better, but I'm not too sure about that.

Are SG internship positions harder to find these days for locals?

I just read an Oz pharmacy forum & found out that pre-reg positions are getting quite scarce here due to the fact that many more Oz Pharmer Schools just opened up since 2003.

It's quite frightening to think that one will be left holding the back in limbo & can't register as a fully fledged pharmer if an oversupply sucks up all prereg positions.

Seeing how there are soooo many Pharmer schs now, I think the situation will hit SG and M'sia Pharmer employment very soon.
